Logging in to windows server after “The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allow connections” Message

01 May

Some times when you are working remotely using the remote desktop feature in windows to connect to the remote server you get the message “The terminal server has exceeded the maximum
number of allow connections” when trying to login.
Remote Desktop

This message means that the number of user sessions allowed on the windows on this machine is more than what is configured but of connecting remotely is the only way to connect to that machine then you’ll be stuck.

The solution for this is to use the console session which is an extra session that you cannot create with the remote desktop utility just by a command that you run from the run window.

mstsc /v:Server

Where Server is the remote server IP

This will open a normal remote desktop window for you to login as administrator and terminate the other sessions open and then log out and connect again in the normal way.

Refreshing Facebook Cash of Shared Web Page

21 Mar

facebook
If you are a blogger that likes to share his/her blogs on facebook like myself you can be annoyed with the fact that facebook cashes the description and image that is displayed when the user shares the post of your page. Facebook does that in order to make sharing contents faster but sometimes you change the contents of the page and you want the change to be reflected on the description and the image when sharing the page on facebook.

There are actually two ways to override this problem. The first one which I personally do not like is to add a parameter to the URL of the page to make the URL look different for facebook. Continue reading “Refreshing Facebook Cash of Shared Web Page” »

Samsung Galaxy S2 Review

12 Mar

Samsung Galaxy S2

Three weeks ago I decided to get a new mobile because my old Nokia 6100 got really really old. So I went down to the mall and headed to Samsung store there and got one of the Samsung Galaxy S2 mobiles because I heard that androids are the best now in the market especially the ones of Samsung and indeed I was not disappointed.

When you open the box you will find a head set plus the charger and a USB connector to connect your phone to your computer that is all beside the phone itself. The first thing you will need to do is to start charging the phone with the charger and then open the device and let the fun begin.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Screen

At first I was astonished with how smooth the touch screen and the interaction of the objects is. The first thing it asks for is your Google account email and password and by default the 3G data connection is enabled so when you enter your email and password the phone connect directly to your Gmail account and retrieve all your contacts from there of course the service provider will charge you for the usage of data connection so you might want to turn this off.

Although the screen of the phone is very wide and big the phone is very thin the exact dimensions are (125.3X66.1X8.49mm). That makes the phone very light and easy to hold and carry and easy to put in your pocket.

Another important thing with this phone is the glass from which the touch screen is made. The screen is made of Gorilla glass which is really hard to scratch and that was a real issue for me because I usually put my phone with my keys and it get scratched and ugly but now with the Gorilla glass this problem is solved.

The New iPad Announcements

10 Mar

Yes it is true the new iPad is called just iPad, not iPad 3 or iPad HD or even iPad 3S wich really makes everything a bit messy like how you are going to say I have iPad, you know which one?

iPad 2 will still be in sale with price drop of just $100 from $499 for the Wi-Fi 16 GB version to $399 while the new iPad Wi-Fi 16 GB will be for $499
Apple New iPad prices

The most big thing in the new iPad is its new Retina display technology which makes the screen of the new iPad much smoother and the images more crisp. This will make it a better platform for reading magazines and books than the iPad 2 where you could still see the pixels on the screen the resolution of the new iPad is 2048 by 1536 is pretty good compared to the 1024 by 768 pixels on iPad 2.

The new iPad is thicker than the iPad 2 but the difference is not that big and hardly noticed by the regular user so that won’t be a problem.

My New Kindle Touch

13 Feb

Amazon Kindle TouchKindle Touch

I recently bought a kindle touch from Amazon.com. I was encouraged by a colleague who bought it and demonstrated for me how the kindle is so easy to handle and so clear to read and it actually looks like a piece of paper  in a good lighting conditions which means no harmful effects on the eyes while reading. I ordered the kindle from Amazon for $99 and got it in almost one week using the Aramex shop and ship service from the US to Qatar.

I paid around $110 for the whole thing and I think that it was a good deal as I usually spend lots of time reading on my laptop on the bed and this has left a very bad effect on my eye sight and also the laptop is not suitable if you want to use it for recreational reading or when you want to take it in outings to read in the sun. The kindle gives a lot of advantages using the new E-Ink technology from Amazon which does not make the screen to glare in the intense lighting conditions and actually makes the text look clearer.

Why Egyptian Salesmen Don’t Sell

15 Jul

I learned yesterday why Egyptians are not good sales people. I went yesterday to Nissan dealer here in Doha, Qatar because I’m looking to buy a car and I like Nissan and always have been driving Nissan. I checked some new cars they have for this year and liked the most the new Xterra and Qashqai so I went there to check them and to ask about the different options and the prices. First when I went in I noticed there were a group of sales people in uniform and they were talking together while customers were wondering around alone in the show room so I went by myself to check the cars and read all the specs of the different models. I finally came to the Xterra and I wanted someone to tell me what is the difference between the different editions and which are the prices. So I went to one of the Egyptian guys that were talking in the group and started asking. The things is the guy was telling me the information by drops and I needed to really drag every word from his mouth about the car in which I’m interested finally I left him saying thank you and went to check another car and there I met another Egyptian salesman in uniform and started to ask him also about the car and he was much better than the first one and he gave me a lot of information about the different models but that was it.

Christmas Day in Qatar

26 Dec

I went today to the gym for like two hours, and as usual I went for like one hour on the treadmill and as I was running I was watching the TV. It was set on a Lebanese  channel which had “Christmas Carole”  movie which I love and used to bring tears to my eyes in certain parts of the movie.
Christmas Tree

After the movie finished they gave some Lebanese Christmas songs in Arabic and in English and while I was watching I had different thoughts about it.

The first one is that Lebanese make very beautiful music although I’m a Muslim and I do not believe at all of what Christmas means the music was really touching.

The second thought was that as someone who believes in Islam hearing the Arabic words in the songs with the Christin belief like “Today God was born” and so on was a little bit disturbing. I know that this is their belief and I have no problem with that but it made me feel a little bit uncomfortable hearing it.

The third and last thought was that Lebanese people has the ability to change their culture very frequently. I remember that just 10 years ago French was the elite language for the high class Lebanese and today all the Lebanese songs were in English and Arabic. This reminds me with the Indians who now use English more than the Indian languages in their movies. Very shocking how fast people change now and for me it shows cultural weakness.

The Bride of the Nile

17 Nov

It is said that the ancient Egyptians were having some rituals regarding the Nile and irrigation. when the Nile was late in flooding they used to choose a girl with beauty and social status and they pay and compensate her father well. They prepare her and then they throw her in the Nile as a sacrifice and the call her the bride of the Nile. They believed that doing this the Nile will be satisfied and will flood the water for their thirsty land fields.

Bride of the Nile

When the Muslims cam to Egypt 1400 years ago they learned about this ritual and the Muslim ruler in that time Amr Bin El As was not ready to allow such rituals that conflicts with the Islamic teachings but on the other hand the people of Egypt believe in it and the river is becoming late and the plants will die. Carried by his confusion he send a letter to the Khalif of the Muslims in Medina asking him what to do. The Khalif answered with a letter and told the messenger to tell Amr to throw that letter in the Nile. That letter reads as the following.

“Oh river of Egypt. If you would overflow out of your own will and choice then we have nothing to do with you. But if you overflow by the command of Allah then we ask Allah to make you overflow.”

The next day the river flooded and fields were saved and since then the Egyptians learnt that everything runs in this universe by the command of Allah and they never offered again a bride for the Nile.
