Remote Desktop Connections Exceeded

Logging in to windows server after “The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allow connections” Message

Some times when you are working remotely using the remote desktop feature in windows to connect to the remote server you get the message “The terminal server has exceeded the maximum
number of allow connections” when trying to login.
Remote Desktop

This message means that the number of user sessions allowed on the windows on this machine is more than what is configured but of connecting remotely is the only way to connect to that machine then you’ll be stuck.

The solution for this is to use the console session which is an extra session that you cannot create with the remote desktop utility just by a command that you run from the run window.

mstsc /v:Server

Where Server is the remote server IP

This will open a normal remote desktop window for you to login as administrator and terminate the other sessions open and then log out and connect again in the normal way.
